No me canso de hacer cupcakes. Siempre se me ocurren mil colores, combinaciones y adornos. Ahora le ha tocado a la lavanda.

I don't get tired of making cupcakes. I always have thousands of ideas in my mind: different colours, combinations or decorations. This time I made lavender cupcakes and meringues.

El Foie Gras es una de mis comidas favoritas y siempre me recuerda a mis vacaciones en Las Landas. La familia de Andy tiene una casa en Las Landas y solo esta a unas 2 horas de Bilbao, asi que os podeis imaginar la de escapadas que solia hacer hasta venirme a vivir a Londres. Nunca he visto el Foie Gras en un cuenco como el de la foto pero me parecio una buena ideda para poder escribir en el.

Foie Gras in one of my favourite foods and it always reminds me to my holidays in Les Landes, South West France. Andy's family have a house in Les Landes and it's only 2 hours away from Bilbao, so I used to go very often before coming to UK. I have never seen Foie Gras in a bowl like the one in the picture but I thought it was a good idea to write on it.

La verdad es que encuentro dificil sacar tiempo para hacer miniaturas. El mes de diciembre fue muy estresante en el trabajo y despues de dos maravillosas semanas en Llodio para empezar bien el año me encuentro en febrero sin haberme dado casi cuenta. La unica mala noticia ha sido la muerte de mi cobaya negra, JD, mientras estaba de vacaciones. Solo espero que la unica que me queda, Ziggy, no se ponga mala...
Una de las cosas que he conseguido hacer en miniatura es esta planta de lavanda del kit de The Miniature Garden Centre.

I am finding difficult to have time to make minis. December was crazy and very stressing and after a couple of weeks in my birthtown in Spain to recover and get energy I am finding myself at the end of February without even realising. I had a bad new from these months back: my black guinea pig JD died while I was on holidays. Now I just have Ziggy and I hope he doesn't get ill anytime soon.

En mayo compre unas piezas de cocina de Country Treasures que me enamoraron. Entonces me quedo la cosa de que todas las piezas de cocina de mi casa del pescador tenian que llevar los mismos colores. Me ha costado meses empezar a pintarlas pero estoy muy contenta con el resultado. Lo que mas me gusta es el aspecto de sucio/viejo que le da el marron.

In May I bought some kitchen utensils from Country Treasures. I was in love with them. Then I decided that all the kitchen utensils and crockery of the Fisherman's Cottage had to have the same colours. I bought the paint months ago and until now I had not painted them. I am very happy with the result and my favourite thing is the dirty/old look that the brown colour gives to the pieces.

Hemigway no ha vuelto a casa

El veterinario ha llamado para decirnos que los abscesos de Hemingway estaban muy profundos y pegados a los musculos. Las probabilidades de que se recuperara despues de la operacion eran muy bajas y hubiese tenido dolores durante varios dias, para posiblemente terminar sacrificandolo. Asi que como se dice en ingles "le han puesto a dormir" mientras estaba anestesiado.

Hemos hecho todo lo que hemos podido y creo que ha sido una cobaya feliz. Le compramos porque nos dio pena (un tipo lo queria comprar para criar y luego decidio que ya no lo queria y con 7 meses era demasiado "viejo" para venderlo) y le hemos dado todo lo que ha necesitado. Incluso cuando nos mudamos de casa un requisito era el jardin para que las cobayas tuviesen hierba todos los dias... El ultimo buen recuerdo que tengo de Hemi es de ayer, de cuando estuvo tumbado junto a mi mientras veia una pelicula conmigo y comiendose su lechuga y robandome las zanahorias que yo me estaba comiendo.

Hemingway hasn't come home today. The vet phone to say that the abscesses were very deep inside and stuck to the muscles. He would have had almost no chances of getting well after the operation and he would have been in lots of pain for days. So he has been puto to sleep.

We have done all we could and I believe he as been a happy guinea pig. We bought him because we felt sorry for him (he was going to be bought for breeding and then the bloke decided not to, so he was 7 months and too old to be sold) We have given him all he needed like a house with a garden so he could have fresh grass every day (garden was a must when we decided to move houses) and medical treatment. The last good memory I have about him was from yesterday when he satyed with me when I was watching a film while he was eating his lettuce and stealing from my hands the carrots I was eating.

Estoy triste, Hemingway necesita otra operacion

Hoy he tenido que volver a llevar a mi cobaya Hemingway al veterinario. Hace 8 dias le operaron de un absceso en la tripa y ahora que por fin la herida empezaba a curarse, le hemos visto otros 3 abscesos alrededor del que le han extirpado. Mañana le operan de nuevo y, como todas las operaciones, tiene su riesgo y no nos garantizan que se recupere. Espero que se ponga bien porque le queremos mucho y su compañero de jaula, Ziggy, le echa mucho de menos (tienen que estar separados desde a operacion y Ziggy no se mueve de la pared que les separa)

This morning I took my guinea pig Hemingway to the vet again. 8 days ago he went under surgery to remove an abscess in his tummy. He was looking quite good and was almost himself again: a little fatty grumpy thing. After the vet said the would was healing very well I realized he had developed 3 more abscesses near the one that was removed. So tomorrow he is going to have surgery again. As with every surgery, there are risks and the vets can't guarantee he's going to be OK after it. I hope everything goes well as he is a very beloved pet and his cage-mate is already missing him very much (they're separated and Ziggy stays next to Hemi's cage all the time)

Despues de una larga temporada...

No se como ha pasado pero el resultado han sido varios meses de inactividad. Supongo que todo empezo no poniendo fotos, seguido de no sacar fotos y terminando con no hacer minis. Estos ultimos meses han sido un poco decepcionantes y no he estado con ganas de hacer miniaturas porque tenia otras cosas en la cabeza. Despues de mucho pensar he llegado a la conclusion de que tengo que hacer algo con las cosas que no me gustan en mi vida, y con un poco de suerte encontrare otro trabajo mejor en el que se nos trate como nos merecemos.
De momento os dejo unas fotos de cosas nuevas y "viejas". La tarta de naranja y la de platano las hice en septiembre. Los "cupcakes" de limon, las trufas gigantes y los macaroons franceses los he hecho en las ultimas semanas.

I just don't know how it happened, but it's been a long time without making miniatures. I suppose it started with no posting pictures followed by not taking pictures. And that led to not making minis. These months have been quite crazy and upsetting, specially at work. After thinking quite a lot I think I'm again in control of my life and hopefully I'll get a better job.
In the picture you can see some "old" things and some new ones. The orange layered cake and the banana pie were made in September. The lemon cupcakes, the giant truffles and the macaroons have been made during the last weeks.

Ya se que parecen compras compulsivas, y quizas lo sean, pero es que no me puedo resistir! Me gustaba la idea de hacer una cocina (o casa algun dia) tipo Ikea y esta es perfecta. Y cuando encontre la caja para hacer escenas ya no hubo mas dudas ni excusas. Todavia esta todo un poco provisional: tengo que poner papeles y suelos, hacer baldas, buscar un horno y frigorifico, poner una mesa que quede bien y, por supuesto, hacer un monton de comida y detalles!

I know it looks like another of my compulsive buys, and maybe it is, but I can't help it! I liked the idea of making an Ikea style kitchen scene (or a dolls house one day) and this kitchen was perfect for it. When I found the scene box there were no more doubts or excuses. I still have lots to do: put a nice wallpaper and floor, make some shelves, find an oven and a fridge, find a nice table and, of course, make lots of food and details!

Hoy ha sido un dia muy productivo, cosa que no suele pasarme demasiado porque la rara vez que tengo un da libre en el trabajo me paso la mitad del tiempo decidiendo que quiero hacer. Tras unos experimentos fallidos y alguna foto que no salia bien os puedo poner tres de mis creaciones. Hoy, no se por que, me ha dado por las tartas, que nunca me gusta demasiado hacer y la verdad es que las he difrutado muchisimo.

Today has been a very productive day, which doesn't happen very often. Normally I spend half of my few days off tryinig to decide what I am going to make, so I waste half of the day. I've been able to finish three tarts, the others are unfinished or the pictures were horible. I normally don't enjoy very much making cakes as I never know how to make them nice (I just eat them!) but this time I had lots of ideas.

Ya las he pasado pero todavia no termino de creermelo. Mi abuelo se puso malo el pasado domingo y murio el martes dia 5 (que ademas era el cumpleaños de mi abuela). Pasó sus últimos dias rodeado de su familia, que era lo que más quería, y le hemos enterrado en Hinojal (Cáceres) su pueblo. He tenido la suerte de estar en Bilbao de vacaciones y pude despedirme de él. Ahora no tengo ganas de muchas minis asi que tendreis que esperar para ver algo nuevo.

I still can´t believe it. Mi grandpa got ill on Sunday and died on Tuesday 5th (that day was my grandma´s birthday). He spent his last days with his family, he loved us more that anything else. He was buried in Hinojal (Cáceres, Spain), his birthplace and his "real" home. All the family travelled 6 hours each way for the funeral to be in the village for just 24 hours, he´d loved to see all of us together again. I´ve been very lucky to be on holidays in Bilbao as I could see him alive and say goodbye to him. Now I don´t feel in the mood for minis so I you´ll probably have to wait more to see new things.

Ya ha pasado un año más, para mi y para mi blog. Mi cumpleaños fue ayer, ya tengo 27 y en breve tendre que hacer uso de cremas antiarrugas!Y mi blog también cumple años que hace aproximadamente un año que lo empecé. Esta vez no he tenido tiempo de hacer una pequeña tarta de cumpleaños, pero he metido las pastillas de Fimo en mi maleta para estos 12 dias que estoy pasando en Bilbao con mi familia y amigos. Seguro que alguna cosilla cae....

Another year, for me and my blog. Yesterday it was my birthday, I´m 27 now and I need to start thinking on using anti-wrinkle creams! It´s also my blog´s birthday, as it´s more of less a year since I started writing. Por fin he tenido un dia sin demasiado trabajo, asi que he podido hacer algo. Esta vez ha sido el turno de la comida italiana, mas que nada porque como Andy tiene que llevarse el portatil solo me quedaba la propaganda del super y era lo que mas me llamaba. Son unas fritattas de bacon y queso y focaccia con tomates cherry y queso.

At last! I had a day off without much to do at home so I managed to do some minis. This time is italian food. Andy needs the laptop for work so I only had Sainsbury's leaflets. I made some fritattas with bacon and cheese and focaccia with cherry tomatoes and cheese.

Con eso de que no hago mas que trabajar y no puedo hacer minis no me queda mas remedio que comprarlas. Mis caballos llevaban desde mayo en la caja y la verdad es que me daba muchisima pena. No me pude resistir a comprarlo.

As I'm always working and I have no time to make minis I haven't got any other choice than buying them. Mi little horses have been in their boxes since May. I couldn't resist the temptation of buying the stable for them!

Desde que empezo el 2009 no he podido apenas hacer miniaturas. Ya he empezado a trabajar en el hospital y como estamos escasos de personal casi se puede decir que vivo en el. Pero cuando me queda un ratito y ganas sigo haciendo minis. Estas son mis ultimas creaciones.

Since the start of the new year I haven't been able to make minis. We have opened the hospital and we have a shortage of staff. That's why I spend the most of my day working and it really feels like living in the hospital. But when I have a little bit of time and I feel in the mood for making minis, I still do something. Encontre la casa Buttercup por muy buen precio y enseguida supe que tenia que convertirla en una pasteleria. Pense que no iba a poder montarla hasta dentro de varios meses pero tuve que comprar una estanteria y ya tengo espacio para ella. Aqui podeis ver como va tomando forma, gracias a mi novio Andy, que lijo todas las piezas (cosa que odio hacer).

I got the Buttercup for a few pounds and from the beggining I knew it was going to be a bakery. I thought I was going to have to wait for several months until I could start making it but when I bought a bookcase I needed I made space for the house. Here are some pictures of the first steps. My boyfriend Andy helped me a lot sanding all the pieces, something I really hate doing!

Un tejon

Os presento a Gordi, el tejon que hice en la clase de Anya Stone. Ha sido dificil hacerlo, sobre todo el ponerle el pelo. Aunque es un poco paticorto estoy bastante contenta con el resultado porque es el primer animal que termino (incluido el pelo). Como veis en la foto se lleva bien con Jatzek, un gato que tengo medio adoptado (debe ser de un vecino y viene a mi casa a pedir comida y un sitio donde dormir)

This is Gordi (Fatty in Spanish), the badger I made during Anya Stone's class. It has been quite difficult to made, specially the fur. It is a bit short-legged but I'm quite happy with the result. This is the first animal I finish (including the fur). As you can see it gets along well with Jatzek, my half-adpted cat (he's from the neighbourhood and he comes to my house seekeing for food and a bed)

Este es un plato de la epoca Tudor, cocido de oveja sobre pan. Lo hice gracias a la clase de Carol Cook (Caraminia). Las frutas las habia hecho unos meses antes y pense que quedaban bien la foto.

Tudor style mutton stew on soppes I made during Carol Cook (Caraminia) class. The bread was also made during the class. The fruits were made by me some months ago but I thought it looked nice in the display.

La comoda va a ser un tocador. Le he puesto un espejo que venia con la casa y al que tengo que cambiar el color.Los perfumes son de un intercambio y el tapete de una quedad en Bilbao. No recuerdo quienes me lo regalaron asi que si alguien los reconoce decidmelo! El joyero es una caja de plastico pintada a la que tengo que poner detalles para que destaque un poco.

The sidetable is going to be a dressing table. Now it has a mirror that the dollhouse had when I got it. It's white so I will need to change the colour.

Un plato de spaghettis a la bolognesa, ensalada con tomates cherry, y como cada vez falta menos para las Navidades, un pavo asado.

Como ya ha llegado el otoño los habitantes tienen que empezar a abrigarse. He hecho el pichi en fieltro a partir de los patrones de la revista Dollshouse World.

Autumn has arrived and the little people need to get warmer clothes. I made this pinafore dress from the pattern provided in Dollshouse World magazine.

Regalos del intercambio (Anyi)

Esta mañana he recibido el regalo de Angela (Anyi), del intercambio que ella ha organziado en el foro de "Tus miniaturas". Lo ha realizado especialmente para mi casa del pescador. Es el baul donde el abuelo guarda "sus tesoros" y donde su nieta ha decidido que ella tambien quiere guardar los suyos. No puedo explicarlo mejor que con sus propias palabras: "El baul guarda en su interior grandes secretos, los tesoros del abuelo y los de la nieta del pescador: su amigo el oso, guardian de sus sueños, la tortuga viajera de los mil mares, la cmeta voladora al cielo y mas alla y el barco surcador de los mares de la bañera" Lo mas bonito de este regalo es que el abuelo de Angela tenia tambien un baul donde el guardaba "sus tesoros" y donde ella tambien gardaba los suyos. Muchas gracias Angela por tu regalo porque de verdad que es precioso!

This morning Angela's miniatures arrived. It's from a SWAP she organized in "Tus Miniaturas" forum. She has made this trunk specially for my Fisherman's Cottage. The trunk is the place where the old fisherman keeps all his "treasures and secrets" and where his little niece has decided to keep them too. She has put inside her most precious toys as the Teddy bear, a kite, a little turtle, a wooden boat and some sweets. What I like most about this miniature is the story behind it. Angela's grandfather used to have a trunk where he kept all his "treasures" and where she put her things too.

El sabado estuve en los anticuarios de Portobello Market buscando miniaturas. Me enamore de el en cuanto lo vi. Estaba en el puestecito de una pareja mayor, que eran encantadores, y tenian mas juguetes viejos. No se de que años tiene pero tiene pinta de viejo, el resto de juguetes tambien lo eran y habia una vajilla de los años 30 (quizas el mueble acompaño a la vajilla en algun momento)Esta en bastante buen estado: le falta un asa, el espejo se ha despegado y tiene un pequeño rasguño en la parte izquierda (ademas de un monton de polvo que ya he limpiado)

I went to the antiquaries to Portobello Market on Saturday looking for some miniatures. It was love at fist sight! I found the dresser in an old couple's stand along with more old toys. The couple were lovey. I don't know how old is the dresser but there was a set of plates from the 30's (so maybe the dresser and the plates were together once) The dresser is in a quite good state: there's one handle missing, I have to glue the mirror in it's place and there's a small scratch (and lots of dust I have already cleaned)

La tarta la hice siguiendo un tutorial de Betsy Niederer para probar la mezcla de fimo liquido con solido. El recubierto de las galletas esta hecho con la misma mezcla.

The cake was made using Betsy Niederer's tutorial to use the fimo liquid and solid mix. The cookies icing it's made with the same mix.

Los panes, llevaban hechos unos meses pero no habia terminado de poner la "harina" hasta ayer.

The bread was made some months ago but I didn't finish putting the "flour" until yesterday.

Dim Sum para dos

Esto es lo que hice en la clase con Betty Hagen. Dim Sum es una forma de cocinar China. Estos son tres platos basicos: Sui Mai de cerdo (arriba), rollito de arroz al vapor relleno de ternera (lados) y panecillos de cerdo con salsa barbacoa china(centro).
Los platos y los palillos chinos tambien estan hechos por mi. Los palillos estan hechos con un palillo de dientes cortado a 1,6 cms y al que he rebajado con un cutter y despues limado para conseguir el grosor deseado. This is what I made during the class with Betty Hagen. Dim Sum is a Chinese couisine. These are tree basic dishes: Sui Mai pork dumplings (on top), rice roll beef noodles (both sides) and BBQ pork buns(centre). The plates and the chopsticks are also made by me. The chopsticks are made of a toothpick cut to 1.6 cms that has been made thinner with a blade and then sanded to get the right thickness. Las vacaciones no me han dejado demasiado tiempo para hacer minis, asi que ahora que estoy de vuelta en Londres espero por fin tener tiempo para hacer mas cosas. De momento aqui esta la foto de mi ultima creacion, una tabla de quesos hechos a partir de una clase online con la artesana IGMA Philippa Todd. Los quesos son: Roquefort (delante izquierda), Camembert (atras izquierda) y Leicester rojo (derecha).

During my holidays I had no time to make minis. Now that I'm back in London I hope to have the time I need. Here is my latest creation, a cheese board made from an online class with the IGMA atisan Philippa Todd. The cheeses are the following: Roquefort (front left), Camembert (back left), Red Leicester (right).

Casa del pescador

He tenido que esperar una semana para poder recogerla pero ha merecido la pena. La casita esta hecha por un artesano.

I had to wait for a week to collect it but finally here it is. It's made by a craftsman.

La casa esta en bastante buen estado, solo tiene algunas pequeñas partes donde se ha saltado el material con el que esta hecho el relieve (en la base y en las escaleras)y alguna cosilla sin terminar.

The cottage is in a quite good state. It only has small parts where the paint has come off (base and stairs)and some unfinished things.

Las lamparas y la instalacion electrica estaban hechas aunque yo necesitare poner mas luces.

The lamps and the lighting where done but I'll need more lamps.

El agujero en la pared esta sin terminar. La dueña anterior lo hizo para poder comunicas las dos habitaciones. Los suelos, el tejado y las vigas necesitan ser barnizadas.

The hole in the wall was made by the previous owner to connect the rooms upstairs. The floors, beams and roof tiles need to be varnished.

He dejado un poco aparcado eso de hacer trajecitos para los habitantes por falta de materiales y problemas con la escala. Lo retomare cuando mi hermano venga a visitarme y me traiga mis habitantes. Asi que he decidido seguir con las comidas, que es con lo que mas disfruto. Lo mas gracioso es que en la vida real yo no cocino, lo hace siempre Andy porque a mi no me gusta.

I stopped making clothes for the little people because I am running out of finishing materials and because I had problems with the size of the patterns. I'll continue with it as soon as my brother comes for a visit and brings me my little people. Meanwhile I've decided to make more miniature food as I really enjoy it. The funniest thing is that I hate cooking in real life and my boyfriend does it for me.

El domingo tuvimos visita y como no pudimos hacer una barbacoa por la lluvia, decidimos algo tipico: tortilla de patatas. Y pense que a mis habitantes tambien les gustaria.

On Sunday I had a friend visiting. We planned a barbacue but it rained for the whole day. Instead we decided to make something from my country: potato omelette. I thought my little people would like it too! (The red things are pieces of red roasted pepper, it gives the omelette a nice taste)

Unos huevos fritos con bacon. No lucen mucho en los platos pero es que no tengo mas!

Some fried eggs and bacon. It doesn't look very nice on those dishes but I haven't got any more!

Este plato esta todavia sin terminar pero poner solo los guisantes quedaba un poco mal. Todavia necesito comprar materiales para hacer la salsa de la merluza.

This dish is still unfinished but the sweet peas only wouldn't look very nice... I still need to by materials to make the hake's sauce.

Churros de fimo: dos para hacer rodajas de cebolla y el otro (un poco cutre) de huevo cocido.

Estos son lo armarios que compre por Ebay. Ahora estoy intentando llenarlos (digo intentando porque no soy demasiado buena con la aguja!). Tambien tengo que pensar como los voy a organizar por dentro porque quiero hacerle cambios para que entren mas cosas.

Estas cosas las hice hace varias semanas pero no habia sacado fotos:

Paquetes, sobre y libro infantil. El libro tiene paginas en blanco, me queda pendiente hacer uno con las paginas impresas. Quiero que el personaje sea el mismo, Will, que en un principio iba a ser un hipopotamo.

Cociendo patatas.

Melocotones, manzanas, huevos, caramelos y "parsnips". No se como se llaman en castellano, pero son como zanahorias descoloridas.

El cuervo no esta terminado del todo. Tengo que marcar mas los ojos y quizas me atreva con las plumas... ya veremos.
